Taking Chances & Stealing Harper - Molly McAdams

This book really should come with a warning - Not your typical love triangle book. Make sure you have your tissues!!!!!

Ok so lets start off with Taking Chances (You should only read Stealing Harper if you have read Taking Chances)

Synopsis - Her first year away is turning out to be nearly perfect, but one weekend of giving in to heated passion will change everything.

Eighteen-year-old Harper has grown up under the thumb of her career marine father. Ready to live life her own way and to experience things she's only ever heard of from the jarheads in her father's unit, she's on her way to college at San Diego State University.

Thanks to her new roommate, Harper is introduced to a world of parties, gorgeous guys, family, and emotions. She finds herself being torn in two as she quickly falls in love with both her new boyfriend, Brandon, and her roommate's brother, Chase. Despite their dangerous looks and histories, both men adore Harper and would do anything for her, including taking a step back if it would mean she'd be happy.

So basically Harper has lead a rather sheltered life to say the least. Her father isn't much of a father and she's used to guys seeing her as their "sister", due to all of this she's a tad naive as to what's really happening.

College and the parties start and she meets Chase and then Brandon. Both of them are interested in Harper and well they are pretty different. Brandon is the respectful "good guy" in the situation who also does a bit of a underground MMA. Chase is the "bad boy" with all the tattoos and the man-whore rep.

Harper ends up in a situation where she is forced to choose one of them and then the world gets turned on it's head again.

That's pretty much where the love triangle stuff ends.

There are a couple of twists and turns in this book where you think you know where it's heading and it does a complete 180 on you and all of a sudden your lead somewhere else entirely.

Again I can't stress enough that if you start reading this book and you find yourself invested in these characters get your tissues handy!!!!!

I'm not going to go into the twists and turns because I'm a firm believer of not spoiling books for people as I want them to be as invested as I got so let me tell you what I liked about the characters.

Harper - I did like her as a person. Her being clueless when it came to males was pretty much a given. I can understand the choices she made, I do to a degree understand her being in love with both guys. Again she was a heroine that I could have quite happily smacked upside the head a few times but by the end of the book I guess everything happened the way it needed to (Not giving away the ending)

Brandon - He was the "good guy" in the scenario. Now due to me having a thing for the "Bad boy" side of things this went against Brandon for a little while. Brandon's MMA help though and could totally see the attraction there. He was sweet and Alpha without being over the top about it and He let Harper do what she needed to do.

Chase - To begin with he is a ASS. There is no better way of putting that. He is the "Bad boy" with the rep to match. I'm a sucker for the bad boy turned good scenario so I was a Team Chase member from the get go. Besides he had the tattoos and yeah I'm a sucker for those as well. He also had the "Smartass Factor" which by now you must realise is a major for me.
Trying to figure out where his head was at was a bit of a mission. This worked well though in portraying him as someone who was trying to do what his head told him but his heart wasn't letting him walk away.

Some of the supporting characters got on my nerves. I wanted Jason Carter to go away and never return. I wanted to slap some sense into Bre at the beginning of the book as well but these characters did have a part in the overall story and given the way everything turned out they needed to be the way they were.

Quote -

“Well, well. If it isn't the princess."

My body tensed and I frowned when I saw him approaching. Narrowing my eyes, I plastered on a fake smile. "I almost didn't recognize you without a tramp attached to you."

Drew and the other guy snickered.

Leaning into my ear he harshly whispered, "Would you like to change that? I'm not up to my limit tonight yet."

Gah, why did he have to be so hot? My body was practically humming with how close he was. I leaned away and replied with the most innocent expression on my face, "Oh I'm sorry, but I don't have any STDs, I'm not your type.”
Conversation between Chase and Harper.

Taking Chances sent me on a emotional roller coaster and given the fact that Stealing Harper is from Chase's POV I knew my poor heart was gonna break all over again, the worst thing was I could see it coming unlike the first time.

Now don't get me wrong I loved these books. I'm still a bit shell shocked at some of the events though.

Definitely well worth a read. Don't say I didn't warn you about the tissues though.
