Colorado Mountain Series - Kristen Ashley

I'm covering the whole series for this post (FYI this series recently had a Cover makeover, I have posted the new covers. The links I have posted to Goodreads and Amazon, some still show the old covers)

I've just finished Jagged, Kristen's latest offering, I do think I need to mention all the other books in this series though. I've read all 5 of the books in the series so far and I always come away thinking "Ok so how do I convince Mr E to move to the Colorado Mountains to Gnaw Bone or Carnal?"
As I said on Facebook this morning. This would be a mission for 3 reasons. A) We live in New Zealand so it would take a truck load of money and some serious paperwork to make that happen and B) Gnaw Bone and Carnal don't exist and lastly C) I'm not even a snow and winter person. I'm a sun and warm kind of girl.

These books can be read as stand alone books and to be honest I didn't read them in sequence and I'm good with the order I read them in as I didn't have to re-cap on Characters while doing it.

Essentially these books cover events in both Gnaw Bone and Carnal. They have a mystery or drama that continues for that book, the mystery is solved in that book but occasionally gets a mention in the next book or characters will cross over.

I'll give them to you in order :)

The Gamble  - This is the first in the series, set in Gnaw Bone. It tells the story of Nina who is currently living in england but on a "thinking" holiday to decide whether she still wants to get married to her fiance Niles.
She rents a A-frame in Gnaw Bone. Theres a slight mix up with the booking and she ends up meeting Max.
Max is a local contractor who owns the A-frame.
This story is the start of the series and sets the scene for the books to come, showing that if these Mountain Men want something they are willing to work hard for it.

Throw in a serial killer mystery and you have the makings for a awesome book.

Sweet Dreams - I have found with this book that it's often everyones favourite in the series so far as well as often being a overall favourite out of all Kristen's books.
This is the story of Lauren and Tatum (Tate).
Lauren comes to Carnal looking for something. She wants quiet and nothing special. After dealing with a cheating husband and waiting for something special to happen she's decided she's not waiting anymore and just wants to live her life. She ends up with a job at the local bar as a waitress.

She ends up meeting Tate who part owns the bar as well as being a bounty hunter who rides a motorbike. At first they don't get along. Tate thinks she's a high maintenance big town girl who got a wild hair and well Lauren thinks Tate's an ass.
Add another serial killer into this story and you have a book that will take you on a great ride.

With this book it is one of my favourites out of Kristen's books (See Post Making my way through Kristen Ashley's Alpha list and also my page Bad Ass Biker Books

Lady Luck - This one's Lexi and Ty's story.
With Lexi she's been trying pull herself out of the bad for years, trying to find the good life away from all the scum she's grown up with. She's almost pulled herself out when she gets pulled into doing one last favour - Pick up Ty when he's released from Jail.
Ty was wrongfully jailed. He was set up. He's a on a mission to sort clearing his name. He ends up recruiting Lexi into his master plan. Things in this book don't always go according to plan.
Throw in a trip to Vegas and a few crooked cops back in Carnal.

This story was least favourite out of all of the books. I still enjoyed the story though, don't get me wrong as Lexi is quite hard case but I have found I liked the other books way more.

Breathe - Faye & Chace's Story
Faye is the quite local librarian thats lived in Carnal all her life. She's had a crush on local cop Chace ever since he came to Carnal.
Chace is a cop as stated above. He's also a widower who dealing with things at the police department as well as helping Faye try and help a homeless boy who looks like he could use a break.
Without giving to much away with this story (There are things from the Lady Luck that come through into this book. It's all explained so you don't need to read Lady Luck first but I'd prefer to continue with my No Spoilers thing, Click on the Breathe link and read full synopsis on Goodreads).

I can however tell you this story has a family drama, a religious fruit loop and some "hired" men through into it.
With this book it also features a crossover from another favourite series of mine - Rock Chick - With the story line tangling up with Rock Chick Revolution - Read review here.

This one is my favourite one out of the lot. Chace is HOT.

Ok so now that we're all up to date on the previous books. Heres the latest book.

Jagged  - Zara and Ham's Story.

Synopsis - An old flame rekindled . . .

Zara Cinders always knew Ham Reece was the one, but he wasn't interested in settling down. When she found someone who was, Ham walked out of her life. Three years later, Zara's lost her business, her marriage, and she's barely getting by in a tiny apartment on the wrong side of the tracks. As soon as Ham hears about Zara's plight, he's on her doorstep offering her a lifeline. Now, it will take every ounce of will power she possesses to resist all that he offers.

Ham was always a traveling man, never one to settle down in one town, with one woman, for more time than absolutely necessary. But Ham's faced his own demons, and he's learned a lot. About himself, and about the life he knows he's meant to live. So when he hears that Zara's having a rough time, he wants to be the one to help. In fact, he wants to do more than that for Zara. A lot more. But first, he must prove to Zara that he's a changed man

First of all I have to say it - Why Ham as a nickname? I know it's Zara's nickname for Graham but still........ Anyway with that little gripe over I must say I loved this book.
I loved Zara and eventually fell in love with Ham (He was a bit of a idiot to begin with)
This story is set in Gnaw Bone. There's mention of some of our favourites from books past but you can definitely read this one as a stand alone. Theres even storyline carried on from For You, one of Kristen's other series The Burg.
Once I started this book I found like with most Kristen books I was not able to put it down until the wee hours of the morning. Definitely well worth a read.

I read these books in the order of 2, 3, 4, 1, 5 - The reason I was happy with my decision to read them in that order is I have read all the Carnal books together and now am reading the Gnaw Bone books together.
As I have said these books do share some characters and while it isn't essential to read them all, I've found I like being in the know about back stories etc.

I'm looking forward to the last book Kaleidoscope which looks like it's coming out 4th February 2014.
Marking that date on my calendar now.

Synopsis - Sexy, gifted, and loyal, PI Jacob Decker is a tall, cool drink of perfection who had Emmanuelle Holmes at "hello." His relationship with Emme's best friend kept them apart for years, but things have changed. Now that a case has brought him to Gnaw Bone, Colorado, the road is wide open for Emme and Deck to explore something hotter and deeper than Emme dreamed possible. So why is she sabotaging the best thing that's ever happened to her?

It isn't easy to catch Deck off guard, but Emme does just that when she walks back into his life after nine long years. The curvy brunette had her charms back in the day, but now she's a bona fide knockout . . . and she wants to rekindle their friendship. Deck, however, wants more. Emme's always been the one; she excites Deck's body and mind like no other woman can. But a dark chapter from Emme's past overshadows their future together. Now only Deck can help her turn the page-if she'll let him
