Donna of the Dead - Alison Kemper

Now I realise this isn't my normal read. I decided to mix it up a little when I found this little gem on Netgalley.
I'm most probably not even the target audience (Most probably YA here).

I really couldn't resist though. It's not often my name appears in the title of a book, or is even a main character, if you follow me on either Twitter or Facebook you would of seen a few posts on how happy I was to see my name. So I picked it up and loved every single second of this book :).

Donna of the Dead

Synopsis - Donna Pierce might hear voices, but that doesn’t mean she’s crazy. Probably.

The voices do serve their purpose, though—whenever Donna hears them, she knows she’s in danger. So when they start yelling at the top of their proverbial lungs, it’s no surprise she and her best friend, Deke, end up narrowly escaping a zombie horde. Alone without their families, they take refuge at their high school with the super-helpful nerds, the bossy class president, and—best of all?—Liam, hottie extraordinaire and Donna’s long-time crush. When Liam is around, it’s easy to forget about the moaning zombies, her dad’s plight to reach them, and how weird Deke is suddenly acting toward her.

But as the teens’ numbers dwindle and their escape plans fall apart, Donna has to listen to the secrets those voices in her head have been hiding. It seems not all the zombies are shuffling idiots, and the half-undead aren’t really down with kids like Donna…

I want to say YAY to writing a 16yr old I didn't find to annoying :). In the beginning she is your typical teenage girl (Oh I cringe because I'm pretty sure my priorities were similar back then. Once you add the Zombies and Donna's mysterious voices into the mix she really starts to "man up" starts working out how to survive the "Zombie apocalypse".
Donna's sense of humor is pretty close to mine so I definitely related to using the stupid jokes as a defence mechanism.

Oh and then there's Deke. I loved Deke, I wish I'd had a Deke when I was at school. He was loyal and a awesome person to have at Donna's side during all the mayhem. He is definitely a valued member of the rag tag team of Zombie slayers.

Obviously no high school drama would be complete without the resident nasty girl. I'm sure everyone had a Gretchen at school. It would really suck to be stuck her the way Donna and the other's are. Pretty sure I would have fed her to the Zombies as a sacrifice early on in the piece, lol.

I'm dying to see if theres a sequel now.

If you want a fun story this is definitely a good one to get your hands on.

Release day is Tuesday 4th of March (Will add link to Amazon then)
